Who actually filed this?
Qui a vraiment déposé ceci?
The honest paperwork on who runs the Ministry, and why we bothered building it in the first place. Canadiantobe is a small, home-based, passionate business out of Ontario. If we're going to ask you to trust us with your money and your mailing address, the least we owe you is not being cagey about who we are.
Why we exist
Honestly? Somewhere between the tariffs and the tenth "51st state" joke, we stopped laughing. It's not funny, it never was, and pretending otherwise felt like staying polite to someone shoving you. Building a stupid, sincere little website turned out to be a healthier outlet than screaming at the news, so here we are, filing paperwork about our feelings.
Then we discovered we were really asking a much bigger question: what does it mean to be Canadian? That question turned stickers into specimens, essays into field guides, and a fake Ministry into something that felt, weirdly, like it mattered. The tariffs started it. The question is what kept us building.
We're not running the country. We're not advising anyone who is, and God help this nation if we ever start. We watch the national mood, document it like wildlife, put the weird parts in a museum, and try to keep the packaging honest.
Pourquoi on existe
The one true thing, plainly
We're on Canada's side, full stop, no hedging. That's not a marketing angle and it never will be. We're a small business ourselves, built here and run here, and every order someone places is one small Canadian business staying afloat instead of a shareholder report somewhere getting slightly better. It's the actual reason any of this, the stickers, the jokes, the whole ridiculous Ministry, exists at all.
And to be clear about who any of this is aimed at: Americans, the people, remain entirely welcome here, we like you fine. It's the unsolicited talk of a 51st state we take issue with, not you.
What we are not
Since the bureaucratic costume can get confusing: we are not a government agency, and nobody in an actual government has approved, endorsed, or even heard of any of this. We are not affiliated with any political party. We are not a polling organization, it's stickers and feelings, not science. And we are also, this comes up more often than you'd think, not qualified to issue passports.
Canada carries real history it still owes real apologies for: residential schools, the Komagata Maru incident, the internment of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War, and other wrongs we haven't named here. Those apologies matter, the harm was real, and nothing about this website is meant anywhere near them. What we poke fun at is much smaller and much lighter: the reflex to say sorry to a chair, or to a stranger who bumped into us. That habit is almost endearing. The other kind of history is not something we would ever treat lightly, and we hope that line stays clear no matter how loud the jokes around it get. It's also why the Land Acknowledgement is the one page here that doesn't joke at all.
How we built this
Built in Canada, by a person, with a considerable amount of help from Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. No beavers were involved in the coding, though a few were consulted on branding.

Where to find us
canadiantobe.ca at home, canadiantobe.com abroad. Same Ministry, same feelings, same goose. Questions, corrections, and confessions: heretoanswer@canadiantobe.ca. We read everything. We apologize for the response time in advance, which is very us.

The scope of our civic duty
We watch the national mood, we write it down, and we keep the packaging honest. For a company that sells stickers with maple leaves on them, that feels about right.
